Start with one of the two main clusters, then add a village that suits your interests. The visit lengths below are FWP planning estimates and exclude travel and a full meal.
The northern base
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence
Explore the old-town lanes, small squares and shaded boulevards. Wednesday’s market gives the centre a different, busier rhythm. Keep the town walk separate from the archaeological and Van Gogh sites south of the centre.
Allow: 2–3 hours for town and a pause
Best for: Art lovers, food-focused stays and travellers wanting a walkable base
Plan for: Market traffic and parking take extra time. Museums have separate admission and opening schedules.

Antiquity outside Saint-Rémy
Glanum
Read the remains of a Greco-Roman settlement against the limestone hills. This open-air archaeological visit gives the landscape a historical dimension beyond the village streets.
Allow: 1–1½ hours
Best for: Archaeology, history and older children curious about ruins
Plan for: Paid admission, exposed paths and uneven ground. Check seasonal hours and last entry; avoid building a winter Monday around this visit.

A focused Van Gogh stop
Saint-Paul de Mausole
Visit the public cloister and Van Gogh interpretation spaces near Glanum. Treat it as a separate cultural visit, with its own entrance and visitor arrangements.
Allow: 45–75 minutes
Best for: Art history and a quieter heritage visit
Plan for: Respect the visitor route and the site’s continuing care function. Check seasonal opening and access needs directly; not every part of the property is public.

A dramatic hilltop
Les Baux-de-Provence & its château
Walk the stone village and, with a separate ticket, explore the ruined château above it. Choose the upper site for its relationship with the surrounding rock and broad views.
Allow: 2–3 hours for village and château
Best for: Architecture, history and travellers comfortable with a climb
Plan for: Steep paving, steps, exposed areas and limited shade. The château is a different accessibility proposition from the Carrières below.

An indoor art experience
Carrières de Lumières
Immersive moving projections fill the former quarry spaces below Les Baux. Reserve the programme you want and give the experience its own time slot.
Allow: About 1 hour, plus arrival
Best for: Art, a cooler indoor break and some visitors with mobility needs
Plan for: Paid visit. The operator states wheelchair access, but moving light may be unsuitable for photosensitive visitors. Bring a light layer.

Olive country & lunch
Maussane-les-Alpilles & nearby Paradou
Use Maussane for a village pause, its Thursday market or an olive-oil stop. Nearby Paradou makes a natural dining anchor, particularly when you have reserved a longer meal.
Allow: 1–2 hours, plus lunch or a tasting
Best for: Food lovers, couples and a less hurried southern day
Plan for: Check the format of any mill visit. A shop being open does not guarantee a guided tour or access to production areas.

An eastern village detour
Eygalières
Explore the older village and its outlook, then consider the setting around Saint-Sixte chapel. Friday’s market is a useful reason to spend a morning here.
Allow: 1½–2 hours
Best for: Village photography, a market morning and slow travel
Plan for: The older upper section involves a climb. Chapel interior access is not guaranteed; keep to public paths and respect surrounding land.

The western side
Fontvieille & the Daudet mill setting
Combine a village stop with the landscape around the Moulin d’Alphonse Daudet. This is a useful alternative to adding a third hilltop village to the same day.
Allow: 1½–2½ hours
Best for: Literary associations, families and a gentle-paced western outing
Plan for: Outdoor paths and the mill interior are separate choices. Check which rooms are open and whether natural-space restrictions affect your planned walk.
