The first five choices belong to the city visit. The Cézanne sites lie beyond the central circuit; the final two are countryside excursions. Allow time for the transitions as well as the attraction itself.
City orientation
Cours Mirabeau & La Rotonde
Start at the Rotonde end of the avenue and follow the Cours Mirabeau towards the old town and Mazarin quarter. The fountains, façades and cafés make this a useful introduction before entering narrower streets.
Allow: 30–60 minutes with stops
Best for: First visits, architecture and a relaxed arrival
Plan for: Busy pavements and market activity can slow the walk. Café seating and shade are not guaranteed.

A morning around the market
Old town & Place Richelme
Follow the lanes towards the food market at Place Richelme and the nearby Hôtel de Ville square. Shop in the morning, then leave time for a café or a meal before the museum portion of the day.
Allow: 1–1½ hours
Best for: Food lovers, town photography and leisurely wandering
Plan for: Market stalls occupy public squares; use the hours in the table. Crowds and uneven surfaces can make a stroller or wheelchair route slower.

The northern end of the old town
Saint-Sauveur quarter
Continue north through the historic centre towards the cathedral quarter. This creates a natural turning point for a town walk before returning through different lanes.
Allow: 30–60 minutes
Best for: Heritage and visitors who enjoy a coherent walking route
Plan for: Respect worship and any temporary visitor restrictions at the cathedral. No fixed interior or cloister timetable is assumed here.

A change of pace
Mazarin quarter & Place des Quatre Dauphins
Cross south of the Cours Mirabeau for a more orderly street pattern, town-house façades and the fountain at Place des Quatre Dauphins. Combine the walk with the Musée Granet rather than making a separate car journey.
Allow: 45–60 minutes
Best for: Architecture, couples and a quieter walking interlude
Plan for: Some narrow pavements and uneven sections; choose a shorter circuit if the full city walk is too much.

The main indoor art stop
Musée Granet
Give the collections and current exhibition a proper part of the afternoon. Check the museum’s current display and whether you want to add its other exhibition site before buying a ticket.
Allow: 1½–2 hours for a focused visit
Best for: Art lovers, rainy-day plans and an indoor break
Plan for: Closed Mondays in the published schedule. Opening changes from 10am to noon on 3 November 2026; confirm your date and any specific access arrangements.

Cézanne beyond the central circuit
Atelier des Lauves
Visit Cézanne’s studio as a focused art-history stop north of the old town. Book the visit format and language first, then plan the journey from your accommodation or the centre.
Allow: 45–75 minutes plus transfer
Best for: Cézanne enthusiasts and a two-day city stay
Plan for: Published 2026 season: 4 July–31 October. Places are limited; reserve. The tourist office lists the site as not wheelchair accessible and without luggage storage.

The family estate
Bastide du Jas de Bouffan
A guided visit places Cézanne’s work in the setting of his family property. Treat it as a separate appointment rather than an optional drop-in between lunch and the studio.
Allow: Allow 1–1½ hours, subject to the booked format
Best for: Travellers with a particular interest in Cézanne
Plan for: The official 2026 programme gives 4 July–31 October. Check the current calendar, language, meeting point and access before reserving.

Separate excursion · Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade
Château La Coste
Walk among contemporary art and architecture in the estate’s vineyards and hills. This is a substantial outdoor visit, with restaurant and wine experiences requiring their own arrangements.
Allow: 2–3 hours for the art walk; half a day with lunch
Best for: Contemporary art, architecture and countryside
Plan for: The operator describes a 4 km hilly outdoor circuit. Wear walking shoes; ask about a booked electric-vehicle visit if the walking route is unsuitable.

Separate excursion · nature
Sainte-Victoire & Le Tholonet
Use Le Tholonet as a named village reference for a countryside outing, then choose a specific official walking route. A landscape visit and a summit ascent require very different preparation.
Allow: Half a day for a selected lower-level outing; more for a substantial hike
Best for: Landscape, photography and prepared walkers
Plan for: Check route difficulty, heat, wind and the daily access notice. Temporary trail closures can apply independently of the summer fire season.
